John Skehan is a Financial Planner with Commonwealth Financial Group, where he works with individuals and families to develop financial strategies that help them protect what they’ve built, prepare for the future, and pursue their long-term goals. He was drawn to financial planning by the opportunity to build lasting relationships and have a meaningful impact on the lives of the people he serves. For John, the most rewarding part of the work is getting to know his clients, helping them navigate important financial decisions, and celebrating their successes alongside them.
Before entering financial services, John spent his career in law enforcement, where helping people through difficult and uncertain situations was at the center of his work. That experience continues to shape his approach as a financial planner. In particular, John has a strong connection to first responders and understands many of the financial considerations that come with a career in public service, including pensions, benefits, investments, and long-term planning. He brings a service-oriented mindset to his work and is committed to helping clients make informed decisions and feel prepared for what lies ahead.
John is also deeply involved in his community through basketball. He serves as an assistant coach for the Plymouth State women’s basketball program and has spent the past several years volunteering with New Hampshire high school girls’ basketball programs, helping young athletes pursue opportunities to play at the collegiate level. He has also coached youth basketball in Laconia, including a championship-winning 3rd- and 4th-grade boys’ team. Outside of work and coaching, John enjoys spending time with his wife, Karlyn, as well as friends and family, particularly on Lake Winnipesaukee during the summer.
